Louis Charles Alexander and The Testament of Omar Khayyam. Bob Forrest. Manchester : [Bob Forrest], 2020. 19 pages, 5 pages of plates; 30 cm.
This little book, published by John Long in London in 1907, is one of the most peculiar books in the Omarian canon: It is one of numerous attempts to rescue Omar from accusations of wine–bibbing and disrespect for the Almighty, and to paint him in a more respectable light. The most extreme forms of this tendency see Omar as a closet Sufi, a notion which FitzGerald himself rejected.
