Gallienne, Richard le [1887]
Richard le Gallienne (1866-1947) , English author, poet and critic, published his tanslations of the Rubaiyat initially in a number of magazines.
From 1897 on, several editions were published under different titles, with a various number of quatrains and some revisions. The first book was published by Grant Richards, (London, 1897), followed by a Second English Edition, also by Grant Richards and a Third English Edition by John Lane The Bodley Head (London, New York, 1901). A Fifth Edition was published in 1914 by John Lane The Bodley Head (London), John Lane Company (New York), Bell and Cockburn (Toronto).
Almost simultaneously American editions were published by John Lane The Bodley Head: The First American Edition (1897), the Second American Edition (1898) and the Third American Edition (1902).
261 quatrains were also contained in an edition by Bardic Press (Oregon House, USA, 2005), together with the translations of Edward FitzGerald and Justin McCarthy.
